This year’s pandemic has changed the way we do a lot of things, right? With this, the way we consume content has also changed dramatically and has led to digital and OTT platforms taking center stage. OTT, in the recent past, has brought us some great artists who have gained immense popularity with the public. While some shows were spearheaded by the biggest names in show business, others saw emerging talent acting as the driving force behind the narrative.
Many actors have made their OTT debuts with some incredible performances in impactful and well-written shows and movies. We’ve rounded up some names who managed to make an indelible mark with their work this year.
Here are a few of our favourite debutants on OTT:
Sushmita Sen
Former Miss Universe and Bollywood actress, Sushmita Sen made a powerful digital debut with Hotstar Special, Aarya. We saw her on screen again after a decade, and it was worth the wait! She played the role of a mother and wife who will go out of her way for her family and her children and she did it with such grace, restraint and enthusiasm that she can’t help but love to see her in action.
Karan Tacker
We have known the handsome Karan Tacker as a well known TV star and presenter. But earlier this year, the actor dabbled in the OTT space with Neeraj Pandey’s Special OPS, a Hotstar Special. His intense performance as a RAW agent was an instant hit with critics and audiences alike and it seemed like he had found gold with his first web show. Special OPS has certainly opened him up to the world of digital content and we are sure that he has many of these performances in store for us in the near future!
Masaba Gupta
Masaba Gupta is a queen in her own right for having redefined the beauty and fashion norms in the industry with her incredible work. While she is great when it comes to fashion, little did we know that she will own the screen with her acting skills? Masaba recently marked her acting debut with Masaba Masaba, a fun and frothy version of her life and her relationship with her mother, actress Neena Gupta. She received a lot of love for her effortless acting from her and her lovely screen space, and we have to agree with that too!
Ishwak Singh
Ishwak Singh won everyone over with his soft and charming looks in the movie Veere Di Wedding. But it was the original Amazon Prime series Paatal Lok that seemed to put his acting skills to the test and it sure came out with great success, right? His portrayal of a badass cop of the heart on his debut web series earned him much praise and emerged as one of the most promising faces to look out for. Ishwak recently appeared in Unpaused, an original Amazon Prime anthology film, where he plays the confidante of a married woman.
Pratik Gandhi
The stage and screen actor, who made a name for himself on Gujarat’s entertainment industry, made his foray into the digital world with Sony LIV’s Scam 1992, based on the life and times of financial expert Harshad Mehta. Although the show as a whole was praised for its gripping and well-written plot, it was Pratik Gandhi who was the greatest show thief. His portrayal of a stockbroker who starts out as a salesman and becomes a financial czar in the money market was immensely appreciated. It goes without saying that he is an emerging face in the digital world that we are all very excited to see him.
